Cultural DestiNAtions at Athens International Airport continue!
On December 16, passengers and visitors at Athens Airport embarked on a virtual journey to the exciting Iceland!
The event was part of the Cultural DestiNAtions programme, a collaboration between Athens International Airport and “PHELLOE.”
In the Departures level, an all-encompassing immersive experience offered attendees the chance to discover Iceland’s wild beauty and cultural heritage. A choreography inspired by Björk’s music, along with performances by an Icelandic soprano accompanied by piano, showcased a glimpse of the artistic and literary traditions of the Arctic Circle.
Visitors had the opportunity to photograph themselves as elves in a themed photobooth, explore the Northern Lights, and witness impressive volcanic eruptions through virtual reality (VR). They also crafted unique Christmas ornaments in a workshop inspired by Icelandic mythical creatures known as Huldufólk.
A stunning art installation brought to life Iceland’s beloved tradition of Jólabókaflóðið (the " Christmas Book Flood"), while impressive videos of Icelandic nature, knowledge quizzes, and interviews with popular influencers were displayed on a giant screen. The experience was further enriched with a buffet featuring flavors from Icelandic cuisine and the country’s gastronomic traditions!
The Cultural DestiNAtions programme, is cultural project of the Athens International Airport in collaboration with the Social Cooperative Enterprise PHELLOE, will continue in 2025, with more destinations to explore and many more surprises!
